Finally, a good voip setup

E-mail Print PDF

My VOIP solution: so easy ...

What I have:

* landline, our home phone number, widely known and used.

* a VOIP-capable BELKIN ADSLmodem/wireless router

 * a Pennytel voip account

The objective: using the same phone, receive calls to the landline number and have outgoing calls use VOIP.

The solution:

Connect the landline to the PSTN port on the router.

Connect the phone to VOIP port 1.

That's it. If somecall calls on the landline, the router switches it though to the VOIP port.

Outgoing calls go via VOIP because the phone is plugged in to the VOIP port.

Dialling ** selects the landline for outgoing calls.

If only I had tried this six months ago, how much money would I have saved ... not knowing that the router could be setup like this, we had a dedicated phone for VOIP, which was impractical.This configuration is not documented in the Belkin manual I have. I found it from a forum.
